Volunteer Testimonials
“Children are my absolute favorite people on the planet, and I am more than happy to make them feel at home and safe while they are away from home. I find myself laughing throughout the week about the conversations and interactions I have with the kids and though I know that it is not all play all the time…I try to encourage them to make better choices and just be like a big sis to them. I must say that I do miss them when they go [home], BUT overall, it has been an absolute joy.” Adrienne, Volunteer since February 2026
“I have always found the mission of helping families in crisis truly inspiring, and I greatly admire the compassionate and empathetic way the organization supports those in need. My experience has been incredibly rewarding and positive. I love having the chance to help the children throughout their day, even in the smallest of ways. I have a deep appreciation for the staff and the important work they do around the clock. I am honored to play a small role in the overall success of this place that is so important to the community.” Stephanie, Volunteer since January 2026
A Day in the Life
Here’s what a typical Childcare Volunteer Shift might look like:
- Support with housekeeping tasks – laundry, tidying, and light cleaning and disinfecting
- Play and learning activities – reading, crafts, games, and guided play
- Snack or meal prep – assist staff in preparing and serving meals
- End-of-shift wrap-up – help staff prepare for the next day
Shifts are flexible! Pick the day and time that works for you and make a lasting impact every week!

We want every volunteer to feel confident, prepared, and supported before stepping onto the floor! In alignment with DCY requirements and Providence House standards, volunteers complete:
- Minimum of 10 hours of initial training prior to their first shift
- At least 10 hours of annual training
Training is fully provided by Providence House at no cost, ensuring access to the preparation and support needed to serve children and families well.
