Throughout the July 4 weekend, multiple incidents of large crowds, violence, and gunfire erupted in the streets next to our East Campus Crisis Nursery. Some of the gunfire hit our Crisis Nursery building, resulting in damage to our windows as well as interior and exterior walls. Our security gates and fences were also damaged as people fled from gunfire and entered our campus playground and parking areas to find safety.
No staff or children were harmed during these incidents, thanks to an immediate and heroic response from our Childcare and Social Work Teams, who quickly put our safety protocols into action.
With your help, Providence House has kept more than 20,000 children and families safe for the past 45 years. Please consider making a gift to help us continue keeping them safe. Your support will allow us to rapidly proceed with:
- Installation of ballistic (bullet-proof) windows throughout our Crisis Nursery
- Repair exterior and interior wall damage
- Repair and replace damaged security fences and gates
- Install additional security cameras to monitor the exterior of our Crisis Nursery
